Commonly Quoted Weak Ahadith Related to Fasting

Assalamu 'alaykum.

  • The du’a : “O Allah! Bless us in Rajab & Sha’baan and make us reach Ramadhan (Allahumma baarik lana fee Rajab wash-Sha'baan wa ballighna Ramadhaan.” Da’eef. (Tabarani in al Awsat 4/189, al Mishkaah 1369, see Tasheeh ad-Du’aa by Bakr Abu Zayd p.508).
  • “The beginning of Ramadhan is mercy, its middle is of forgiveness, and its last part is of freeing from the fire.” Munkar. (Ibn Khuzaymah 1887, ad-da’eefah 1569).
  • “The one who fasts has a supplication at the time of iftaar which is not rejected.” Da’eef. (Da’eef at-Targheeb wat-Targheeb 582).
  • The du’a at the time of Iftar: “Allahumma inni as’aluka bi-rahmatika allati wasi’at kulla shay’in an-taghfirali.” (ibid.)
  • The du’a at the time of iftar: “Allahumma laka sumtu wa ‘ala rizqika aftartu.” (see Tasheeh ad-Du’aa p.507)
  • Saying the intention verbally at the time of suhoor such as: “nawaytu an asuuma ghadan min shahri ramadaan mubaarak ya Allahu fa taqabbal minni inna antas-samee’ul ‘aleem.” Baseless, not found in any book of hadith.
  • The du’a at the time of suhoor: “Allahumma Baarik lana fi Suhoorina” Baseless. (see Tasheeh ad-du’aa p.509).
  • Adding the word kareem to the following established du’a: “Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun kareemun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni. (ibid. p.510)
